In the aftermath of the tragic murders of two BJP leaders in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district by suspected Naxalites, the local unit of the party has reached out to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, appealing for 'Z' category security for its office-bearers.

Srinivas Mudliyar, chief of BJP's Bijapur district unit, penned a letter to Amit Shah on March 7, highlighting the escalating threats faced by party members due to their anti-Naxal stance. Mudliyar specifically requested 'Z' category security for himself and eight other key office-bearers of the district unit.

The letter underscored the increasing dangers posed by Naxalites targeting BJP leaders, attributing the violence to the frustration over the state government's robust anti-Naxal operations. The recent killings of Tirupati Katla and Kailash Nag on March 1 and March 6, respectively, serve as grim reminders of the precarious situation in the region.

"Given the looming threat of Naxal attacks on BJP office-bearers and workers in Bijapur, it is imperative to ensure their safety," Mudliyar stated in the letter. He highlighted the temporary 'X' category security provided to several leaders during the last assembly polls, emphasizing the need for a more permanent and robust security arrangement.

The brutal murders have instilled a palpable sense of fear among BJP leaders and workers in the district, prompting many to change their locations for safety reasons. Mudliyar reiterated the urgency of the situation, urging the Union Home Minister to take decisive action by granting permanent 'Z' category security to the nine identified office-bearers of the BJP's district unit.

The letter serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing violence perpetrated by Naxalites in Maoist-affected areas of the state, with at least eight BJP leaders or members falling victim to such attacks in the past year.

As the BJP grapples with the grim reality of targeted violence, the plea for enhanced security measures underscores the urgent need for concerted efforts to ensure the safety and security of political leaders and workers operating in sensitive regions affected by Naxal insurgency.
