New Delhi: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has joined hands with the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority and Municipal Corporations of Raipur and Bhilai to establish Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plants in the state, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Wednesday in the presence of Chhattisgarh's Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao.
The initiative entails an investment of ₹100 crore each for setting up state-of-the-art facilities in Raipur and Bhilai, with the aim of converting municipal solid waste into biofuel. The planned CBG plants, with a processing capacity of 100-150 tonnes per day, will utilize approximately 200-250 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste daily.
Highlighting the potential of the initiative, the Chief Minister emphasized its role in creating cleaner cities and promoting zero carbon emissions, aligning with the government's commitment to environmental stewardship. Additionally, the project is expected to generate about 60,000 man-days of employment annually, contributing to the region's economic development.
The economic benefits of the project are substantial, with the state projected to receive GST revenue of approximately ₹45 lakh per year from production and sales at full capacity. Moreover, the initiative will produce organic fertilizer as a byproduct, supporting Chhattisgarh's efforts towards organic farming and agricultural sustainability.
Key stakeholders involved in the formal signing of the MoU included Devesh Kumar Dhruv, Commissioner of Bhilai Municipal Corporation, Avinash Mishra, Commissioner of Raipur Municipal Corporation, Anurag Saraogi, Chief General Manager - Biofuel, and Sumit Sarkar, Chief Executive Officer of Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority.
