The Chhattisgarh government has directed all active Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) of government departments to deposit their cheque books with the treasury authorities. This move comes as a halt is placed on online payments through the e-Kuber platform by the departments. According to the state government's directive, DDOs must deposit their cheque books with treasury officers by 5 p.m. on March 22 and also provide details of previously issued blank cheques.
Expenses deemed essential for public welfare will require the submission of a complete report to the local district collector for approval before payment can be authorized, effective March 26. Following approval, the Finance Department will release funds based on the available information.
Furthermore, from March 26, 2024, until the end of the financial year, treasury officers will provide cheques to DDOs for approved cases, signed by the relevant authorities and countersigned by officers. Cheque issuance will be subject to the approval of the Drawing and Disbursing Officer after the completion of financial transactions. This order indicates the government's commitment to curbing corruption and ensuring the proper utilization of funds, with strict measures against any misuse by commission-seeking firms, officials, or employees.
