Chhattisgarh is set to embrace electric buses (e-buses) as part of the Pradhan Mantri E-Bus Scheme, aiming to enhance public transportation services across its major cities. Under the scheme, approval has been granted for 240 e-buses to operate in four prominent cities of the state.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced the allocation of e-buses as follows: Raipur, the capital city, will receive 100 e-buses, while Durg-Bhilai, Bilaspur, and Korba will each be equipped with 50, 50, and 40 e-buses respectively.
The Pradhan Mantri E-Bus Scheme, initiated by the central government, aims to revamp public transportation infrastructure in urban areas. The allocation of buses is based on the population of each city, with an objective to provide efficient and eco-friendly transportation options.
CM Sai expressed confidence that the introduction of electric buses will revolutionize urban transportation in the state, offering citizens better mobility options while contributing to environmental conservation efforts.
Commending the officials from the Urban Administration Department for their efforts, CM Sai directed them to explore possibilities of extending the scheme to other cities in the future. The central government's vision is to develop the scheme as an alternative or complementary mode of transportation to metro systems, ensuring affordable, reliable, and convenient transportation for the public.
The Pradhan Mantri E-Bus Scheme was launched last year in August with the aim of modernizing public transportation infrastructure and promoting sustainable mobility solutions across the country.
