Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, March 6, 2024: In a disturbing turn of events, Naxalites have once again targeted a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in the Kotmetta area of Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, marking the second assassination in six days. The assailants not only shot dead BJP leader Kailash Nag but also set ablaze a JCB machine involved in dam construction, creating an atmosphere of terror in the region.
According to sources, Kailash Nag, the Mandal Vice President of the BJP and a local businessman, fell victim to Naxal violence on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred approximately 12 kilometers from the Jangla police station, where construction work on a new reservoir was underway, and Nag was overseeing the operations from his JCB vehicle.
The recent spate of violence comes within six days of another BJP leader, Tirupati Katla, being brutally murdered by Naxals. Katla, a party leader and district member, faced a violent attack during a wedding ceremony in Toynar last Friday, with Naxals wielding lethal weapons to carry out the ruthless act.
Chhattisgarh has witnessed a surge in Naxal activity, creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity in the region. The consecutive assassinations of BJP leaders have intensified concerns among locals and authorities, raising questions about the safety of political figures in the area.
The state has been grappling with Naxal insurgency for an extended period, and the recent incidents underscore the challenges faced by security forces in countering the menace. The authorities are now under increased pressure to enhance security measures and devise strategies to curb the escalating violence in Chhattisgarh.
