The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has detained K Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana chief minister Chandrashekar Rao, in connection with a money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor policy. Kavitha, a BRS leader, has been arrested after questioning by the ED.
The ED conducted raids at the premises of K Kavitha in Hyderabad on Friday, as part of their investigation. BRS Working President KT Rama Rao and former Minister Harish Rao, along with a large number of party workers, gathered at Kavitha's residence and engaged in slogan shouting.
Senior BRS leader and former minister Prasanth Reddy stated that Kavitha is scheduled to be taken to Delhi tonight. He expressed concern over the apparent premeditated nature of the detention, as flight tickets were reportedly booked for Kavitha even before the ED officials arrived at her residence.
The ED has alleged that Kavitha was linked to a "South Group" lobby of liquor traders involved in influencing the now scrapped Delhi excise policy for 2021-22. One of the accused in the case, Vijay Nair, allegedly received kickbacks from the "South Group" on behalf of leaders of the AAP, amounting to at least ₹100 crore.
Reacting to the searches, BRS spokesperson Sravan Dasoju claimed that the raids were politically motivated and accused both the BJP and Congress of conspiring to harass leaders of the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led party. He alleged that the ED and Income Tax department, working at the behest of the BJP, were targeting BRS leaders while ignoring illegal wealth amassed by Congress leaders in Telangana.
The detention of K Kavitha marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the Delhi liquor policy case, with political ramifications echoing in Telangana's political landscape.
